    This appears to have been pressed inside a book and left there for years, flat and smooth and in great shape!  Here we have a Leather frog for a US Bayonet, the back is marked, "ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL 1903".  Shows some age patina, wear, some fine surface cracks, overall excellent condition considering it's age.  See photos for further details, clarification, and condition.
